If you haven’t noticed by now, 2018 is definitely the year of the woman.  Women are taking charge in entertainment, politics and of course business.  Honestly this isn’t anything new.  According to the National Association of Women Business Owners more than 11.6 million firms are owned by women, employing nearly 9 million people, and generating $1.7 trillion in sales as of 2017.  And African American women represent the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in the U.S. according to Forbes. To help women continue to make strides, here are 10 women owned businesses to support this summer including small one-person ran businesses to multi-million dollar companies.  

1. Honeypot Co

3. Apps Without Code

Looking to create the next big app? Tara Reed, 26, is the founder, chief executive and head instructor of Apps Without Code.  Her start-up school helps entrepreneurs build their ideas into functioning businesses.

4. Message In A Bottle

Got a thing for fun, quirky shirts? Mess In A Bottle is a T-shirt company that allows you to say what you want without ever having to say anything at all.  It is an expressive brand and it allows individuals to be outspoken and vocal by wearing their message.

6. My Lit Box

Founded by Sanura Williams, My Lit Box is a subscription box company that will send you a newly released novel by a writer of color plus one to two other treats. Williams got sick of the 9-to-5 grind and turned her dream into her full-time hustle, marrying her desire to start a business with her love of reading. Her goal: to spotlight writers of color and let them take center stage.

7. The Spice Suite

The Spice Suite is the culminating vision of owner Angel Anderson’s love of good food and people. The Spice Suite is an interactive spice bar which features house made infused cooking oils and spice blends. Guests can also create their own custom spices at the monthly “bar”, lounge in the comfortable seating area and enjoy a “spiced” lemonade or tea. Such a cute idea! 

8. Beauty Bakerie Makeup

Founded by millennial Cashmere Nicole and addressing the needs of a largely-millennial demographic, Beauty Bakerie has gained a strong online following by engaging a like-minded tribe with a sweet tooth for makeup.  This  bakery-inspired line includes best-selling products ranging from liquid lipsticks, setting powder, and highlighters to eyebrow gel, eyeshadows, and eyeliner. And they have over 400,000 Instagram followers! 

9. Nubian Skin

Ade Hassan saw a gap in the hosiery/lingerie market and created a line of to meet the needs of women of color. She has a long line of shades comfortable for any women to feel sexy and powerful in their undergarments.

10. Betterness Box

Founded by Kala Garner and Denise Gilmore-McPherson, BetternessBox is a monthly subscription box with a curated assortment of products to provoke your transition into a life of betterness in the areas of wellness, fitness and beauty.
